Inspection Gateway Services
The Gateway Services application
supervises the Internet traffic, and intercepts and inspects all inbound objects
passing through the HTTP Protocol. It verifies the digital signatures of signed
objects, extracts compressed files and then performs the key task of analyzing
each object, in order to verify that it adheres to the security standards of the
organization.
The Gateway component
communicates with an authorized Control Center, so that it is updated with the
organization's latest security policy. Each Gateway transfers to it's authorized
Control Center (defined during setup), details of objects analyzed; it's source
IP address, security collisions, including the date and time of analysis.
The Gateways use packet-processing
technology to detect network objects
in real-time. The organization's security policy is received from the Control
Center and enforced at the gateway level. All communications between the Gateway
and the Control Center use TCP/IP protocols and these communications are fully
authenticated, as are all communications between any of the eTrust Content
Inspection components.
The eTrust Content Inspection
Gateway component, or scan engine can be configured to work with external
applications that capture the network stream and assemble the files for
inspection. The combination of the eTrust Content Inspection software with such
applications has resulted in the following different editions of eTrust Content Inspection:
