eTrust Virus Protection

eTrust Anti-Virus Provides Complete Virus Protection

Anti-virus software is designed to detect and remove computer viruses. It protects data on a computer from potentially being destroyed and avoids people from having to waste time in dealing with a virus infection. While most anti-virus software is capable of detecting and removing common viruses, it is often not deployed, not deployed correctly, or not kept up to date, thus leading to the spread of viruses.

Viruses are detected by anti-virus software in two basic ways - a full scan of your physical resources such as hard drives or in real-time as each file is accessed. It is critical that your anti-virus solution provide both these features, especially real-time protection. eTrust Anti-Virus protects computing resources and data by searching storage and entry points such as PC clients, email attachments, floppy disks, PC servers and Internet servers for any unknown or potential viruses. eTrust Anti-Virus utilizes a full and real-time scanning engine to guard these critical entry points from viruses, Trojan horses, worms, or any other malicious code.

Keeping anti-virus software up to date is critical; more so than other software programs. Anti-Virus arms users with the latest virus protection schemes on a bi-weekly basis and, as needed, provides a handshake free injection of the latest virus configuration files, templates and signatures to protect their clients. Anti-Virus has options for Microsoft Exchange, Lotus and Internet servers. eTrust Anti-Virus will protect an enterprise from its gateway to groupware to the desktop.

Methods:

eTrust Anti-Virus scans files on a workstation or server , using signature checking and a rules-based polymorphic analyzer virus scanner to detect known viruses. Currently. Anti-Virus uses four techniques to detect computer viruses:

bulletIntegrity Checking
Determines if the program's contents have changed due to a virus attaching itself to a program. Anti-Virus uses integrity checking primarily to check the integrity of the Critical Disk Area information.

bulletRules-based, Polymorphic Analyzer Detection
Observes the way programs behave to detect suspicious program behavior.

bulletInterrupt Monitoring
Observes all program system calls in an attempt to stop the sequence of calls which may indicate virus actions.

bulletSignature Scanning
Uses a unique set of hexadecimal code, the virus signature, which a virus leaves within an infected file. By searching the program files  armed with these codes, the signature scanner can detect that known virus.

Features:

bullet Real-Time Protection
eTrust Anti-Virus protects your enterprise with an unmatched  set of features that are grouped into the Real-time Protection function.

bulletAlerting and Notification
ALERT is a notification system that sends messages from eTrust Anti-virus and other eTrust products to persons in your organization, using various methods of communications.

bulletWindows NT Support
eTrust Anti-Virus is a powerful, second generation anti-virus solution for your Windows NT network. Available options provide protection for Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange messaging systems.

bullet Virus Signature Updates
To protect against the onslaught of new viruses, the product automatically downloads virus signature files (daily, weekly, monthly, etc…) from the Internet and distributes them to servers and clients to provide the latest protection.
